p.s. Hey. ** David Ehrenstein, Hi. Stevie Smith, interesting. We’ve been in touch about the PGL thing, and thanks so much! ** Tosh Berman, Hi, Tosh. I figured that you had known Ed one way or another. Yes, David is a super champ to put together that book. Ed’s work really needs to be out there and living. ** Bill, Hi, B. The Paris Ass Book Fair, you know, it was nice. Cool atmosphere. Most of the people sharing/selling their zines and books and things are kind of all doing slight variations on the same thing: juxtaposing somewhat edgy photos of cute alterna-trendy guys in collection form, so there was a sameness, although always sweetly and enthusiastically intentioned. Some exceptions. My friend Florent does this quite outstanding queer zine called Congrats! and was there with a new issue. The best bookshop in Paris, After 8, was there with a lot of great books. A few other highlights. No excellent stories, but a pleasant thing. Oops, the tempo, the scrambling, but that’s exciting, but that’s easy for me to say. Awesome! ** Kai, Hi, Kai! Yeah, it’s a great, must-have book, I think. I’m hoping we’ll have the Berlin PGL thing locked down in the next several days. Waiting for date and confirmation. No, Jürgen Brüning had nothing to do with this film. It was produced by a French production company, Local Films. Jürgen produced our first film, ‘Like Cattle Towards Glow’, and that was the end of that. Bon Monday, man! ** Misanthrope, Great! You won’t be sorry if you get his book, trust me. So interesting about your phobias. I used to know someone who was deathly afraid of dolphins and whales. Even a drawing of them would give her a nervous breakdown. I think my only phobia is extreme heights, of being in outer space. Especially space walks. Just thinking about them can give me a panic attack. Whenever I’m watching a movie that takes place in outer space, I have to grip the arms of my chair, and I get cold chills and vertigo. I think that’s all, phobia-wise. That I can think of. Well, sweet deal about the doc appointment and the new doc. Great news, man! ** politekid, Oscar! Hey! So cool to see you! Zac and I were just talking about you and wondering how and what you’re doing the other day. Wait, reading in a bookshop is an infraction? What kind of … wow. Good riddance? Is that okay to say? You’re going to do till work at the Tate Modern? That does sound intense in a kind of energy-involving way, but the prospect does cause a level of excitement. Maybe I’m giving ‘Tate Modern’ too much coolness, but, yeah, me, I’m into that job of yours. If you remember, report on what it’s like. Because I’m interested and can’t quite imagine what that’ll be like. Oh, shit, yeah, do whatever to ward off depression. Don’t go there. That’s no good. I’ve had terrifying nightmares pretty much every night of my life, but the good thing is, I don’t remember them except for about a second after I wake up. Anyway, I seem to be okay (if, yeah, weird) despite that, if that’s any consultation. Great about the two new scripts! I mean, I’m me, but they sound fascinating, and, yeah, ideally the staging and props issues aren’t yours, for better or worse. Man, I hope one or both of those gets green lit when the time comes. When do you hear about the competition result, fingers ultra-crossed? And, wait, the sound installation text. That’s exciting. Where is the installation? How do I find the instagram advert? (I’m not on instagram, but I can peek). I have this idea that I’d like to get to London to see some stuff like the Kathy Acker retro and maybe the Charlie Fox curated shebang and, if so, maybe the timing will be apt for your thing too? Yeah, I wrote about art for a long time. I was, and I think still am, a Contributing Editor of Artforum, although I haven’t written for them in over a decade. Some of the art writing stuff is in this book of my essays/journalism called ‘Smothered in Hugs’, and the rest is in old issues of art magazines like Artforum, Parkett, and others. That’s very nice of the Cabinet guy — Martin? — to say. Man, really, so good to see you! Let me know more when you feel like it. Take good care, and I hope all those things-in-waiting blossom. Blossom? Yeah, why not, blossom! ** _Black_Acrylic, It’s a wonderful book. Worth pre-ordering. Nice about the serious progress on The Call’s public face. I’m only on Facebook, but I’ll try to remember to check the Twitter feed, or … isn’t there an easy way to share one’s Twitter feed on Facebook? I feel like people in my feed do that a fair amount? ** James, Hi. Saw your email in my box. I’ll get to it pronto. ** Jeffrey Coleman, Hi, Jeff! We just became friends on Facebook, which is odd because I thought we already were. Huh. Hope stuff’s way cool on your end. ** Steve Erickson, Hi. Yeah, what’s that saying … ‘cross that bridge when I come to it’? America’s good at facile statements. Actually, the French are too. I don’t think I’ve seen Penny Lane’s films, but I’ll try to rectify that absence. ** Okay. I thought I would give all of you what I hope will be charming break of a post today. See you tomorrow.

Coin? How’s about High Coin ? (Jackie De Shannon sings Van Dyke Parks)

  2. Keatoccoli

My favorite coin is my Charlie McCarthy from his Chocolate Factory he set up in the Monnaie. Just a gold coin with a buttplug on it lol. A rich man gave me a coin one time and told me if I put it in the bank Id be rich. I spent it shortly thereafter haha. The twinks on my Grindr are starting to look and act like the escorts. Eating parmesean from the can and dreaming of House of Dracula

Hard to think about coins and not also think about the Mario games IMO. But just thinking about the coins in Mario games can lead down some weird alleys. Never mind the question of where Mario even stores these coins on his person, a more interesting question is, why are so many of these coins floating in mid-air, seemingly defying gravity… or, even more curiously, within blocks, and who even put them there in the first place? Why does collecting 100 of them gift Mario with an extra life? And so on and so forth.

  4. _Black_Acrylic

Oh yeah I always remembered that Mario coin as having a deeply satisfying sound effect, but then I checked the thing on YouTube and it’s just not the same as I thought. Euphoric recall maybe?

aw you’re both sweethearts! yes, good riddance is absolutely okay to say. so many people on a power trip in job-land. i dunno if i get the appeal of power trips — the psychology, sure, but the appeal less so — it’s not something i’ve ever felt that interested in personally, at least. i’ll come back and report on Tate when it starts, but it won’t be for a week or two… i think it’s still a cool place, as long as you take the curatorial stuff with a pinch of salt. (not sure how much i can say without jeopardising my position haha.) a cool spot for people-watching at the very least.

thanks for the script excitement! makes me feel better. weird to sit on stuff for so long, not sure if the waiting game is actually a thing or if i’m just wasting time. i used to listen to fugazi’s Waiting Room loads and relate to it a lot, then Genius Lyrics told me the song is ironic and critical and i felt like a bit of an idiot. i won’t hear about the competition til July/August, i know. it’s one of the big huge ones (1400 entries or something insane?), so i’m not holding my breath, but they give feedback to everyone who enters so i reckon it’ll be worth the wait if their reputation is anything to go by.

the instagram is: https://www.instagram.com/p/Bvjr0AtlL3y/ …it’s going to be at st augustine’s tower, which is the oldest structure in Hackney. the photo isn’t that indicative of the sort of thing mhairi does — she’s v into her trypophobic, aggregate, non-traditional material stuff, one of the pieces is going to be made up of 100s of used contact lenses to make a sheeny surface. it would be incredible if you made it! it’s on for a super short time tho — Private View Friday 10th May 6-9pm, Open Sat 11th and Sunday 12th May 2-5pm — so i don’t blame you if it doesn’t fall in nicely to a trip (the text will be online after at least). wait wait wait there’s a kathy acker retro?? ohh ICA, jeez i am out of the loop. i’ll have to keep that tab open. thanks for the book info btw, chasing that down asap. god knows if i have access to old artforums etc., i’ll check the usual means.

it’s always good to come back here! i leave it too long every time. i’ll be back soon, but catch you later!

(oh and yeah i still have no idea if my comments actually come through or not, what a weird glitch)

You can watch many of Lane’s shorts at her Vimeo page here: https://vimeo.com/lennypane. Having seen 3 of her 4 documentary features and 5 of her shorts, my favorite out of all of them is THE BACHELOR found footage short NORMAL APPEARANCES. The interview went well, and I’ve transcribed half of it.

I feel much better after having gone back up on my dosage of Klonopin, and while that makes life easier, it’s a bit scary to realize how much decreasing the dosage had sunk my mood and made life harder. I’m taking about 25% what I was at a year ago, so I guess it’s much better if I have to stay at this dose, but I’m still wondering if quitting without throwing my life into disarray is realistic. Did you read the recent New Yorker article about people who wound up with multiple addictions via treating their mental health issues with pills and are now trying to quit?

  8. Misanthrope

Thanks, Big D. I tell you, I wish our American coins were a bit heavier or something. But then I think about being in London and all those coins weighing me the fuck down, and I’m like, “Nah, that’s okay.”

See, I love dolphins. Can’t watch ’em on TV or look at close-up pics of them. Gives me the heebie jeebies. Scenes of the ocean -that immensity- do that to me. Fuck, I’m getting nervous thinking about it. And dude, you have a comrade-in-arms re: outer space. And from a guy who loves that sci-fi shit. I can’t look at pics of outer space. They freak me the fuck out.

This guy sent me a link once to NASA’s pic of the day. After a couple views, I couldn’t take it. The immensity. Really, I need to stop typing about it. I’m about to break out into a sweat!

  9. Steve Erickson

One question: can anyone recommend streaming sites for watching TV shows on-line?

  10. Jeffrey Coleman

    Testing…

(Will be a miracle if this works.)

  11. Jeffrey Coleman

    Well, I’ll be.

    Dennis,

Hi. I’ve had mysterious trouble with posting at your blog for the last… maybe the last year or more. By which I mean, I think the above might be the first of my comments to post in a long time. Hmm. I dunno, man.

Anyway, been a long time. Like, years, I reckon. Hmm, if my comments keep posting, might start hanging around again.

Anyway, I was glancing over Nick Land’s serialization of his Bitcoin book draft when I switched over to Facebook, saw this post in my feed. Coincidental enough for me to pop over, try again to post.

    Link, for those interested:

http://www.ufblog.net (can scroll back to the beginning. Or, to make it easier: http://www.ufblog.net/crypto-current-001/ )

There is also Nick Szabo, who many believe to be Satoshi Nakamoto, the creator of Bitcoin. Szabo is at least recognized as being very influential in the creation of cryptocurrency. I have not really read Szabo’s stuff, but whether he SN or not, there looks to be a wealth of info and insight about the history of currency on his blog:

    http://unenumerated.blogspot.com

Anyway, let’s see if this comment posts as well…

  12. Jeffrey Coleman

I’m freaking confused. So, it doesn’t show my longer comment I just tried to post, but when I tried to post again, says “duplicate comment detected,” meaning maybe it did post and I can’t see it?

Is it showing up on your end, Dennis? Nick Land and Nick Szabo? Lol, I seemingly haven’t been able to post for a long time, dunno why I have these problems with your blog now, dude.
