p.s. Hey. ** Dominik, Hi!!! The hope and plan is that he’ll invest a little teaspoon of his wealth in Zac’s and my haunted house film, but maybe we can convince him to spookify his building and host a film premiere launch party/haunt. But first things first. I spent a few days with Courtney in and around her and Kurt’s Seattle mansion — he wasn’t around because he was on a serious drug binge, but I didn’t know that until later. (Courtney said he was ‘recording’). I liked her. I thought she was very smart and fun, and I wrote a very positive feature, but I later realised she had gaslit the fuck out of me about pretty much everything, so I didn’t like her as much after that. I saw the Iggy Pop tour where Bowie was the pianist in his band, and Iggy wiped the floor with Bowie live. Love whose first name is not Mike or Darlene or Buddy or Courtney, G. ** Misanthrope, No clue where Alan is these days. He popped in here once several years ago to comment about something, but that was it. It might be quick pain in the ass that prevents a number of future pains in your ass? Great news about your continued and happy wordage adding/fixing on that novel. I guess a bunch of people must buy Interview since, at least in ‘my’ issue, it still has a lot of expensive ads in it. ** G, Hi, G. I actually bumped into Shirley here in Paris several years ago, and we had a little bonding tete-a-tete about our mutual victimisation by Laura Albert. No, I haven’t seen M. Manson’s paintings. Err, maybe I’ll try them. I feel like I can imagine what they would look like, but it would be interesting to be wrong. Oh, I’m sorry to hear about your health shit, and about the NHS’s inadequacy. We Americans, or a lot of us, tend to romanticise national health care with good reason, but it’s true that I never hear a kind word about the NHS. The French version seems pretty good, although I hardly ever get sick, and barely even when I do. I’m sorry too about your brother’s exit. He just wants to go home, or does he have to? I hope you find total relief non-expensively, my friend. If you missed the Hammer event, I think it’ll be archived on their site in a day or two. Needless to say, I slept through it last night. ** Bill, Yes, it’s one and the same Alan. Eek, about the tinily attended Roger Miller gig. Strange. I saw T. Rex play their first ever US gig at the Whisky, and there were maybe 20 people there. It was pre-‘Electric Warrior’, but, still, I was shocked. ** Tosh Berman, You got me on the ‘what’s not to love’ thing. Having seen Talk Talk is very cool, although, yeah, that’s very early on. When I saw Sinatra, he could just barely move one of his hands or even fingers in a certain way, and it was amazing. Dude knew his performative shit. I’m excited to hear Jack on Book Music. How very cool that you had him on! ** Corey Heiferman, Hi, Corey. Good to see you, man. So your events are happening, awesome. Hm, yeah, well, the ultra-differing personalities thing can definitely work on a curatorial basis. It can also explode. Hope it’s the former. Either of your proposed ideas for a guest-post would be great and very welcome. Thank you, pal. ** Steve Erickson, Seeing pre-Grohl Nirvana is pretty top notch. Never saw Aphex Twin, other than him doing a dj set once, and I regret that. It looks like my first live gig will be Ryoji Ikeda at the Sonic Protest Festival. We get live music/gigs of all shapes and sizes, and even nightclubs, back at the beginning of July. Hope France isn’t jumping the gun there. I’ll check the Backxwash album and stream, thanks. I’ve never met Manson or Reznor. I saw Reznor standing across the room at a gallery opening once and saw Manson sitting across a Mexican restaurant once, but that’s it. ** jamie, Hi, Jamie! Cool, all thanks to Alan wherever he may be. I’m good, still digging the ever more reopening Paris. I’m sorry about Scotland’s elimination. Oh, wow, that video is fantastic! Oh, to have found it in time for my ice shebang. Thank you. You know, my imagination started thinking about making something out that very hoarder/ murderer(?) escort’s entry, yes. We’re brain wave synced, buddy. We’re maskless outdoors here now, and sans curfew, and live music gigs and nightclubs come back in a week and a half, and it’s really almost completely normal here again. Exhilarating and a bit spooky. How/where are you guys? Sounds like your track and ours are the same, but with Paris in the lead (for now). Very lovely to talk with you, sir. xo. ** _Black_Acrylic, Yes, Leeds! I’m very sorry to hear about Scotland. I would have liked for — and maybe even watched — them and France duke it out. ** David Ehrenstein, My memory is that Hardin did not look to be in very good shape at that show. But then neither did Nico, actually. ** Okay. Today’s post fulfils the requirements of its title. See you tomorrow.

    Hi!!

Awh, today’s post has a very similar vibe to that of my old tumblr. I’d be so curious about the context of some of these photos, haha. I really like the one in which the guy looks up at the cop from his car. I love his eyes and expression. Thanks for sharing!

Oh, wow, seriously?! About Rick Owens’s involvement in your and Zac’s new film?! That’d be super awesome!

Courtney has always sounded like a very… uh… difficult person to me. That’s part of my fascination, I guess, but I won’t mind if I never meet her in person, haha. Ah. I would’ve loved to see Bowie and Iggy Pop together onstage. I didn’t see Bowie live, but I’ve seen Iggy once, and he was still extremely energetic and charismatic – I can fully believe that he’d stolen the show quite easily.

Haha, okay, I think I can live with a love like that! You know what comes next. Love as handsome as the person in the second last picture (though I was tempted to build a love around the guy who’s eating the frozen pizza), Od.

This is such a beautiful post, Dennis! Made me all wistful. It’s like a really nice movie or something. I’ll spare you memories from my pot-hazed youth as I’m sure they’re the same as everyone else’s, but the post brought them up in a nice manner. Were you ever a big weed smoker? Something tells me not. Amazing title for the post too!
Paris is sounding nice. Brussels is getting there. We have a few streets where you still have to wear a mask and it’s quite hard remembering where and when to mask up. But cinemas are opened and life seems to be getting better all round. I’m still to make it to a cinema, as everything I really want to see isn’t subtitled in English, but I’ll get there soon.
Glad you liked the ice video. It’s super cool, eh? The noise of the encroaching ice has something of the slow horror film about it.
I’ve met Shirley Manson too! She’s really nice indeed. And Butch Vig, who also seemed lovely.
I think for the housesitting escort I’d like to write a TV series. Good luck getting anyone to pick that one up!
How was your Wednesday? Mine has involved editing an animation script and it’s been pretty heavenly, I must say.
    Happy Thursday!
    Love, Jamie

The stoned look was very much the look of the Nico and Tim Hardin show at the Whisky. Your concert/artists blog is slowly opening up for me shows I have forgotten about. Maybe it’s a covid-19 existence and being home a lot – but I feel like the kids in the Stoned blog today.

On the other hand, i’m really happy with the Hammer presentations. I had a lot of fun doing the interviews. Thank you for being part of it!

      Tosh — you could write a version of Brainard’s “I Remember: — I remember this show….

Haha, such a distinctive (and sometimes charming) look.

Of the 3 people at the Roger Miller gig, one was me, and I brought one of the other two. I was pretty proud of myself for being responsible for 2/3 of the audience, haha. The Birdsongs gig that came through a year later was much better attended.

The smaller performance spaces here are cautiously opening up. I might try to catch one of these screenings:

I was going to mention a streamed event with Winston Tong tomorrow, but it’s cancelled, oops.

At that show Tim looked like a Teddy bear with half the stuffing pulled out of him. But he sounded like an Angel.

    Nico looked like Nico

In my 90s teen schooldays I was part a gang of stoners who would sit in someone’s car up a street by the side of the school and we’d all have a good smoke on our lunchtimes. One sunny day we got raided by police who were convinced there was a heroin dealing racket going on. A few of us were taken to the local station but it was quickly clear the cops had got it totally wrong. The headmaster was totally cool about it and no-one ever got punishment. It might be long ago but they were some good times.

This post makes me simultaneously envious and completely relieved I didn’t get into much pot, or many drugs to begin with. My family was a bunch of potheads and they all sorta suck in their own specific ways so it kinda turned me off of the stuff. The times I have smoked or done edibles has generally resulted in anti-climax or a terrible climax or at least just eating a metric ton of Red Baron frozen pizza. Also plenty of vomit.
Might be interested in stuff like psychedelics, although the whole “separation of self and ego” thing sounds like it might make me combust. Are you experienced with that stuff? And do you buy in the “drugs help make art” idea?

Hope you’re having a good day. Cheers.

Hey Dennis. Nice feauture in Interview. Im almost on my way back to South Africa after almost three months of good beer and not always such good photography BUT I have a little retrospective of 5 years of 35mm film photography to share here: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?vanity=ferdinand.andrew.5&set=a.3974816222538952&locale=nl_NL
    All the best, Ferdinand.

The retrospective is just a photo album on fb , embarrassing indeed but the images have just been hiding on a memory stick for years despite me taking photography pretty seriously. Ha Courtney permenent gastlighting indeedie. Garbage was my introduction to going to shows on my own, got the new album today and its a smooth one.

OK – for a blissful second I thought this was a surprise slave post… brother is a british citizen so he can stay as long as he pleases, but he needs to go back to ir to sort out some stuff including his cat’s transition from ir to here if he decides to make the big move… Oh, at this point I’m happy to payyy for private healthcare as long as it’s goood… anyway, sry abt the overshare! DC’s as the therapist’s couch! Dc’s as a confessional! Ahhhhh, that’s everything that you & Shirley bonded! Can’t think of anything more gorgeous really, I just wish it hadn’t been caused by something as shitty as the horrible Albert… Instagram algorithm suggested her to me as someone I should ‘follow’ the other day, and I very nearly threw up. She’s also been sending ‘admiring’ messages to one of my other writer friends who’s written about being a rent boy, and I told him to stay away from her… I missed out on the Hammer event, too, I slept for like ten hours, which was lovely, though certainly not as lovely as your event… please keep us posted when it’s available to rewatch. This seems like a day Chris Dankland would have curated! I agree about the Tumblr vibe. Was there any larger context for the guy holding the gun?

I’m finally seeing MONOPOLY OF VIOLENCE tomorrow. The Metrograph announced that it’s re-opening in September. I believe that’s the last theater in NYC (which holds daily screenings) to come back in physical form. Even Cinema Village, which rents its space by the week, has reopened, although I wonder if the studios which distribute the VOD action movies and documentaries it usually ran care about getting a theatrical release anymore. Anthology plans a Gordon Parks retro some time after they reopen in August.

    Dude, look at your eyes!
