But Iām in this weird closed loop where X-Y-Z made me spend a lot of time in a place which was driven by fear, jealousy and resentment, and the objective state of my life more-or-less served to justify that or at least make it an understandable headspace to have adopted in context. Whereas now, my place in the world is objectively fine, except itās like thereās this residual deep-seated, spiteful, paranoiac way of relating to it. Or in other words, Iām in the world now and I can engage with it but in my mind thereās still this disbelief and angry precarity which is so woven-in it feels inseparable from the facts on the ground — like a chocolate bar that melted into a sofa or something — and the precarity breeds the resentment and the preconceptions.
Iād really hope I at least mostly keep a lid on all that in terms of how I carry myself externally, you tell me, because itās an ugly attitude, not sexy-ugly, just ugly. Itās like thereās this horrible scabbing rash all over me that I just want gone, but the rash somehow glues together every piece of my world.

I think I must have read āUlyssesā for similar reasons. I first read it at 14 and it had a big effect on me. I think it affirmed, as well as other things, that plot was the least interesting thing about writing. I was lucky that my parents were readers and had books by Joyce, Burroughs, and Nabokov that I could discreetly slip off of the shelves. They actually never read any of those but had them anyway. The first book I must have snuck off of the shelves was this Jack the Ripper biography when I was nine-ish, which my dad caught me with. Then when I was 12 I got obsessed with āA Clockwork Orangeā, and I think that was my gateway drug to literature, though I havenāt read it since. I love the film and doubt itās as good as being a book as it is being a film.
Although I was exposed to porn on the internet from a young age, I think thereās something very validating about the first time you come across certain themes like that in an artistic context on your own.

This is turning out to be an unexpectedly salacious day, Dennis. (Not involving Kash Patel, thankfully.) I also just got back from a screening of Gay Propaganda 3.0, shorts curated by Slava Mogutin. There were a few clever things, nothing terribly surprising.
Decrazify should be a word! It’s mostly good crazy, but I do need to keep making progress on various projects. Well voting in the primary is not one of the good ones given the lousy choices, but let’s not go there.
Frameline just released its program. Closing night is the new Jane Schoenbrun! Wow. Either they got some cool new curators, or they lost so much funding they can’t afford the more mainstream fare that tends to occupy that slot.
