HALLWAY TO HELL, $5,999.18
‘Moving wall system can be independently programmed to pitch left, yaw right, bounce, shutter, wave back and forth and collapse at will. Individual units are 10′ long, with a dedicated walkway width of 5′, when in its tallest position unit stands 9’. By putting two of these units together and programming theme differently, you create an incredibly dramatic 20′ Hallway that nicely replaces in both size and function the industries spinning tunnel effects, without the need for steps, ramps or handrails. Unlike spinning tunnels, this effect can be easily integrated within a variety of themes and it fits in seamlessly with the rest of your attraction. The unit sets up in minutes not hours. Modular panel design allows the unit to be quickly and easily setup and the pieces are small enough and light weight to allow them to go anywhere in your attraction without the need to de-construct your maze. Base units come unthemed so that you can ‘decorate it yourself and save” or you can buy the optional themeing packages below, allowing the unit to arrive completely ready to just plug in and go.’ — Haunted Propxs

p.s. Hey. Longer term readers of this blog probably know that my attraction to Halloween is such that as soon as mid-September happens, I can wait no longer, and my anticipation starts being played out in slightly more than occasional, thusly themed posts, of which this is the first, and that’s the story. ** Hyemin K, Hi. Oh, sorry, one post, thank you, my eyes got greedy there for a second, I think. Your thoughts re: MB vs. RB, whatever their source, are exciting. You working on you own is by far the most important thing, definitely. I’m just happy for the visits here that you generously find time for. ** David Ehrenstein, Hi. Oh, I remember that ‘Hannibal’ death. Who couldn’t, I imagine. That might have been the last thing by Ridley Scott that I actually liked. ** Lee, Hi, Lee! Yeah, you know, I don’t think I’ve ever watched ‘Sesame Street’. I think, age-wise, I’m just post-. I know the characters ‘cos it’s sort of impossible not to, but they have no context. They’re like weird eruptions from some volcanic innocent something or other. It’s weird. Oh, man, that Milan gig sounds fun. Do you like Milan? I’m not sure if I do. The first time I went, I didn’t. Or I couldn’t figure it out. The second time I kind of got it. Anyway, it seems like a good place to make and show something. I can definitely imagine it as a context for something else, whatever that sounds like it means. I’m not sure myself. Do please send pictures. The idea makes me feel grabby. Sure, let’s touch base whenever you like. I’m around, and my base would be totally enhanced by yours. Great weekend! ** _Black_Acrylic, Hey, Ben. Thanks, man, about the novella. I’m into it. Yeah, the magical ingredient is for Zac. I don’t know if it’s detectable to anyone but him or not. I’m not even sure if it’s detectable to him, but that’s one way magic works maybe. Whoa, yeah, the pro-‘No’ propaganda is out of control. Even reading that shit from afar makes me want to backlash against it. I so wish I could be at the zine fair. Do report on the highlights and about any especially awesome zines you come across. ** Thomas Moronic, Oh, thank you a lot about the new novella! I think most people are whatever about the gif novellas, but I’m taking the form kind of really seriously. I’m tricking myself into thinking the gif novella is a new off-literary form and trying to see how much complexity the juxtapositions and imposition of narrative can create. I think that, just rhythmically, there’s the possibility of doing something kind of unique that crosshatches what certain kinds of music can do (think Autechre and on and on), using the rhythm of the gifs as colliding/collaborating drums or keypad points something, with a kind of clunky experimental film affect mixed with narrative flights/tricks and other stuff. Not that the ones I’ve made are so great or anything, but I’m really interested in trying to be a mad scientist/artist/writer behind their controls. As soon as I get full-on back into the novel, I’ll probably need to make a scrapbook page. That’s how it has worked so far. Glad you’re de-wiped. Yay for your kids! Bubble tea, wow, such a tempting, weird, refined but somehow crude concoction. Mm, there might be some fun in the weekend. I can see that possibility. You have a productive and fun one. ** Kier, Hi, K. I missed you yesterday! Thanks on behalf of peterbd and about the novella. Your yesterday sounds really beautiful. I felt like I could hear the forest twigs crunching under your … boots? I’m sorry about your co-worker friend leaving. Wwoofing, huh, I’ll read about that. Nice word. Me? I don’t remember the day before yesterday. Must have been quiet. Yesterday during the day I just worked mostly and stuff, and then Zac came by and we bought liquids and plates/cups for our post-film party and ordered pizzas from this great pizza place, Pink Flamingoes, and then people started arriving. It was super great to see a lot of our film’s cast again. They’re such a hugely wonderful bunch of people, and we’ve missed them, and we all just sat around and caught up and talked and ate and smoked and drank and stuff ’til kind of late. It was really, really nice. Then I slept. That description wasn’t so exciting, but it was very cool. Now you have a whole weekend to do stuff and tell me about it, and vice versa or ditto or me too. Have fun! ** Sypha, Puns are an interesting form of humor. It’s hard to make a pun that makes people actually laugh rather than just contemplate and hopefully chuckle, I think. I like that about them, even if most puns are kind of dumb ass on purpose, I guess. When I met you, I thought you had a really good sense of humor. I distinctly remember that. ** Steevee, Most likely just adjustment stuff, yeah. Sounds familiarly so to me, at least. The Dardenne brothers interview would be really cool, of course. They probably would be into that site, it’s the publicists who get all picky and elitist about that kind of stuff, in my experience. ** Kyler, Hi. Thanks! No, only Zac gets and gets to know the magical ingredient. Sorry. It wouldn’t work on anyone but him anyway. Cool that Murakami has pulled you in. Such a nice feeling, yeah. ** Misanthrope, Big M. Or big G. Or big MG. I disagree with you about your wit, but what do I know? Only everything in the world, ha ha. Oh, okay, let me read your joke and see what happens. I see what you mean. The faux-accusatory punchline is complex. It strikes and then it splinters into at least a few possible motivations, and then the listener is forced to choose one and think about why they chose it. Yeah, the complexity is nice. But, yeah, people rear up at being accused. So much so that the joke context gets erased for a moment. Or the joke’s motivation becomes something you have to figure out. Yeah, interesting. I don’t get the last joke, but I’m not completely coffeed-up yet. Am I supposed to know what or who Aerial is? Explain. Did you know that yesterday was Barry White’s birthday when you talked about him? I wondered that when I found out later yesterday that it was his birthday. ** Bill, Hi, Thrusting, cool, I’ll take that, thank you. You saw Aki! That’s cool, I love Aki. I love his music, and he’s the coolest, nicest guy. Anything else in the festival strike your considerable fancy? ** Rewritedept, Hey. Fucking blogpost, dude, tell me about it, except you just did. Paris is nice to live in. Organizing the footage is a kind of awful job, truth be told. And whoever does it will get a whole unpleasantly lot more than a sneak peak. Just for one of the scenes, which will likely end up being around 15 minutes long, we have 24 hours of footage to go through, for instance. My day was nice. I told Kier about it. What did I think? What … oh, about your email thing. Mm, I’m pretty hesitant to unravel ‘TMS”s secrets. What can I say? I can say (1) excellent eye you have there, and (2) it is not the major key but, having found it, it is a clue to a now more visible sequence of clues that, if discovered and combined, can unlock a major secret. Hope your weekend is rad too! ** Okay. Halloween animated props are one of the minor treasures of the world, if you ask my opinion, which I know you didn’t. There they are. Shop wisely, window-shop less wisely. See you on Monday.
Never got the Dardennes. Their movies are as bland as vanilla custard to me.
Black Acrylic, I like that joke. It make me giggle.
Dennis, Animatronics are way cool. Animatronic Halloween props are even cooler. Nothing like scaring the bejeezus out of someone with a life-life robot. First, you think it's a real monster, but then you realize it's an animatronic monster and it's just as scary.
Thanks for that about that joke. I think you're spot on. Of course, it helps that you know everything in the world, hahaha.
I like humor that throws a punch at stereotypes or at people who stereotype others. Which is why I'm a fan of Daniel Tosh and his show Tosh.0. He gets shit for being some sort of misogynistic, racist frat boy, but people don't realize that what he actually does is exploit people's preconceived stereotypes and makes fun of those stereotypes, as well as the people who hold those stereotypes. He's kind of a much more subtle, believable Stephen Colbert. I don't think people realize he's playing a character, which he's alluded to before, because in real life he's this very liberal guy who's accepting of everybody, something you can really tell in his interviews with the guests he has on his show.
Oh, Ariel is the Little Mermaid. She wears a bra made of seashells. D shells are too big. 😉
I did not know that it was Barry White's birthday the other day. Weird. And interesting. The funny thing about Barry White -to me, anyway- is that he had this deep, "sexy" voice, but then you actually see him, and while you expect maybe Tyson Beckford (former very nice-looking Calvin Klein model and current actor), you get…Barry White! But then again, who would've expected James Earl Jones if you saw Darth Vader without knowing first who James Earl Jones was, you know? I always expected to see, like, that Jaws guy from Moonraker who just died. Nope, just nice ol' James Earl Jones.
Dennis – Halloween is coming! I'll look forward to the related posts. Always enjoyable. I should start thinking about what I might like to do for Halloween this year, actually.
Dennis, I really like the Autechre comparison you made RE: your gif novellas. Makes total sense and it's one of those times when recognising something/having it pointed it out is just weirdly pleasurable, if you even get those moments. The collisions, winding and unwinding repetitive and evolving nature of them … yeah, very Autechre-esque.
Latest FaBlog: Defenestration Mon Amour
oh man. dennis, you're like the vodka bar that puts the "book your christmas party here!" sandwich board out in july. (ok, not so bad – i DID see that last year though. but then this year they closed down, so i guess in retrospect their desperation had grounds.) aanyway.
i hear bad things about milan, so i'm curious to know what 'getting it' entailed for you. though the place we're showing in is in monza, which i think is more like a suburb, so i don't think it'll be all fashion-fashion in the same way. whatever, one of the artists is from there, so i guess she 'gets it' in one way or another. it'll be fun, there'll be pictures, bases will get touched. that's a nice trajectory. oh, also i forgot to say that i liked the gif novella post (i always do, both like and forget to say).
great weekend to you too (mine isn't too shabby so far – saw pierre huyghe's new show at hauser & wirth today – a couple of bum notes, but essentially gorgeous. kicking myself i didn't come over for his pompidou show now – ah wells).
xx
hi dennis that mb vs rb thoughts are almost "against" the way i read and think about them but i just think that oppositional thoughts about thinkers/writers rather distinctively could be exciting for some to think through the region of complex ideas in general, but i don't particularly feel agreeable to those ways of big and closed conclusions on thinkers/writers. so there was another misunderstanding, but it's not at all a problem and all is from my idiocy.
your gif novellas for your friend zac look wonderful and i doubt i can put any further word of mine on it.
well, i stopped by to mini-express that vs things are not the way i think about mb/rb or whoever. but please take any excitement from it if there is any respectively in your mind. i kind of found that in my well rounded and long and slow studies about them, haha.
another slow and quiet day here, it was Saturday i suppose. probably before it gets too late, i will cook something similar to thai food with fake meat things. it seems like i'm depressed somehow in the midst of working? see you later. have a good weekend and nice week ahead, too!
Dennis, I have a feeling you might like the Halloween story in my 2nd collection.
The Barnes & Noble I work at has begun playing Halloween-themed music this month, which is pretty cool. Everything from oldies (like "Werewolves of London" and "Monster Mash" and "Frankenstein") to more modern stuff like Nick Cave's "Red Right Hand" and Marilyn Manson's cover of "Sweet Dreams." One song I have never heard before but like now is Dave Edmunds' "Creature From the Black Lagoon."
Oh yeah, a few nights ago I finally beat "Metal Gear Solid 4." Can't believe I beat all 4 games in that series in the span of a year.
I was just thinking my neighborhood Halloween costume shops start advertising earlier every year!
The ante seems to be upped every year, though I tend to like the more subtle ones, like the breathing grave. Very nice.
Zoviet France last night was fun but a bit old-fashioned. Tonight's headliner is the intriguing and charming Nicolas Collins; you've probably seen this clip.
Bill
hi dennis! i'm so happy halloween posts are starting!! it's like the only halloween i get since nothing happens here on halloween. though i am going to a back to back film showing of nosferatu (murnau) and nosferatu (herzog) on the 30th. if i got to dress up i would go as dead from mayhem. what would your costume be? i'm crazy about the evil child lunger and the shotgun one and the silent hill one. wish i could afford a horror animatronic to live in my living room. i wear wellies/boots at work yeah, green ones with the tops folded down. your film-wrap party sounds really really nice, i'm envious. this weekend i did some drawing, including one of elias from iceage/vår in a cheerleading skirt (i don't know why this is becoming a thing with me) that you can see here. i went for a walk to a small mountain, took some photos with my polaroid 101 land camera. i listened a lot to the vår song i posted on facebook. like, a lot. still am. and watching the video, it's so perfect. now it's just 3 days until i leave for oslo for the art show. i'm psyched! a little nervous. but it'll be great fun, the whole weekend. how was your sat-sun?
Ooh Halloween, goody! Remember William Powers, that genius YouTube video artist whose work featured in a dedicated Day here last year? Well, his 2014 Spirit Halloween tour
was published this weekend and it's a feast for the eyes and mind.
Referendum update: the polls are all agreed that everything's still too close to call, with different winners and margins for each one. The TV channels, the media commentators and all the British newspapers save the Herald are siding with the No camp, but still Yes is thriving. Vine footage of thousands of Yes supporters on Glasgow's Buchanan street on Saturday, all singing and smiling in the sunshine. What's truly inspiring is the way this moment has caught the collective imagination, and at Saturday's Zine Fair, which was a resounding hit by the way, the talk was of little else. My friend Sarah Indigo came along with her young daughter and her own dedicated Yes zine "Ready For Aye", before going back to campaigning on the Dundee streets. Dundee's a Yes hotspot and all my friends are in the art mafia so I'm well aware that my vision on this is skewed, but it's still a thrilling moment. I'm trying to wave this wave of positivity for all it's worth.
*ride this wave, I mean.
Just out of curiosity, how much time did you spend researching this post?
I don't know if you like Queen at all. I only really like their first few albums, but there's a nice 2-CD live package containing two sets from 1974 (the QUEEN II & SHEER HEART ATTACK tours.) Some studio trickery appears to have been involved, or their soundman was *very* busy with digital delay on Freddie's vocals. I know he was talented, but I don't think anyone can sing 4-part harmony with himself live.
Love your love of Halloween, these posts always make me think of the houses that had the most over the top setups trick-or-treating as a kid.
Count me among the fans of the horror novella posts… The juxtapositions set my mind off, also relating to the epileptic polyrhythms of the GIFs flashing, i think. Examples, along with your image stacks, the slave/escort posts, and many others of what I wish I saw a lot more of on platforms like blogger, tumblr, etc.
I have to take a trip to eastern Washington with my boss for a few days to wire a house over there, and I am really not looking forward to it. We will likely work 16 hour days and hopefully make it back late Wednesday. Really hate my job.
I posted a new video on my Vimeo channel:
https://vimeo.com/channels/stpurtill
Maybe one of my favorite things I have made.
