p.s. Hey. ** _Black_Acrylic, Hi, B. I’m honestly not a huge theater person myself, or, rather, I should say not a big fan of traditional theater aka plays. But, yeah, Muller is badass. ** David Ehrenstein, Hi. Olympia Dukakis is in ‘Twice a man’? Wow, I did not realise that, or I didn’t know who she was when I saw it. Must rewatch. Thank you! ** Cody Goodnight, Hi, Cody. I’m pretty alright. We’re finishing and submitting the festival submission version of our film today, so I’m psyched about that. I like Zombie’s music too. ‘Superbeast’ is an al-time fave song of mine. I never liked Marilyn Manson. Yeah, the early ‘Apes’ movies, big fun. I actually quite liked the second and third of those recent ‘Apes’ movies, although they’re not camp or fun/tawdry like the originals. I like your upcoming watch list. Naturally. Yes, I know Diamanda Galás’ music. I prefer the early, intense stuff to her recent song-oriented work. I met her once. She was shockingly really nice. Now that the film is temporarily finished, I hope to finally see some films and things I can report back on to you. Enjoy today maximally. ** Jose, Jeez, no, thank you, I mean, goodness gracious! Bill Jones is great. I used to be pretty good pals with him. Yes, I’ve read ‘Diary of an Innocent’. I like it a lot. I suppose it is controversial, especially in this moment. But all hail meaty controversy in these times of idiotic, anti-controversial controversies. If you ever set eyes on Duvert’s ‘Strange Landscape’, grab it. I think it’s his best, but it’s extremely out of print and $$$$. We’re submitting our film to the first festival today, eek. Let the finger crossing commence. Yes, the ‘Stroke’ project, such a good idea. I never hear people talk about Stroke anymore, and it was a top notch zine if you were queer and adventurous back then. Have the loveliest Friday. ** _ollie_, Hi! Arsenic looks very loveable in the good kind of love way. Nice. I would really say let a pro surgeon type of person help you with the surgery if you do it, you know? It means being deliberative and patient, but I think it’s awfully worth it. I live for Halloween. It’s a great reason to live another year. I would say cure your boredom by writing, no surprise. Oh, gosh, sure, I’d love to have the drawing, wow. We can sort out how/ where etc. when the time comes. But of course! That would be a total prize. ** Jeff J, Glad you thought it was okay. Easily one of the greatest theater things I’ve ever seen is Robert Wilson’s ‘the CIVIL warS a tree is best measured when it is down’ which was only performed once, I think, in Amsterdam where I saw it, and Muller wrote the text for that work, and the text was incredible, and so I would say that’s provably my favorite of his. I’m happy the Davidson gig is working out so well and, of course, that the novels are still percolating at least throughout. What are the classes like? Or how do you organise/ structure them? Any especially talented students? The edit (and sound work and color grading) for the festival submission version of the film is finished, and we’re submitting it to the first festival today, gulp, in fact. A real long shot, but you never know. Then we’ll keep working on the film, well, assuming funds arrive from somewhere, god knows where. Have a great one, man. ** Right. How about a whole bunch of mostly pretty chandeliers as a post idea? Seemed like an okay idea to me. Apparently. See you tomorrow.

I have new sentences up I am very proud of them and is my dream that you read and tell me thoughts I am curious about your thoughts.
I got so much stuff out of my system by writing these. It is only the beginning and I hope towards eternal inspiration. I know you are so busy with the film I can’t believe you guys are near finish that is amazing. I don’t want to think about seeing the film because it gonna take long and will think about it with excitement when the time comes

I have access to the Duvert books you mention but I don’t have access to Atlantic Island and it is the one I want to read first as it seems more accessible to get familiar with the way he writes and stuff

I send you good vibe from dark under the sun Greece

That first pic with the cat is adorable!

Sorry about the radio silence, Dennis. Was in New York for a few days, had a lovely dinner with Steve Erickson, played a little gig at a gallery (streamable for a bit: https://microscopegallery.com/live-sound-bill-hsu/), caught an excellent Tetsuya Ishida show at the Gagosian (https://gagosian.com/quarterly/2023/08/11/essay-tetsuya-ishida-my-weak-self-my-pitiful-self-my-anxious-self/). Now in Philly, getting ready for a gig tonight with my old friend Chris Burns. More when I get home on Sunday.

Back in the 20th Century there was a BBC sitcom called Only Fools and Horses that featured this classic scene of 2 brothers attempting to clean a chandelier. 4 minutes of supreme physical comedy there.

Exciting news here is that the Flash Fiction writing class is back on! It all takes place on Zoom and what I value about it is that you get some worthwhile feedback from your peers, plus I get on well with the tutor too. 1st session starts 5th October which is not too far away either.

    Delightfully curated sparklings, as ever!

Scanned this series intently, hoping for the bone chandelier / damocles sword props from Barker’s ‘Lord of Illusions’… But neither would’ve counted. No lights!

Fred Wilson did an exhibition, Afro Kismet, that featured some spectacular chandeliers. https://dailyartfair.com/exhibition/9494/fred-wilson-maccarone I’ve had an idea to do a large installation of painted Chinese paper lanterns, but haven’t gotten my butt in gear yet – hahaha! Tonight we are going to see a series of films by the Kuchar brothers at the Academy Museum. Mike will be there – super excited!

    Hey Dennis

    Luke Rathborne here

    It’s been a nice decade

I completed something called ‘VOIDLAND’ I wanted to send over

    Cheers from usa

I’ve seen two films at New York Film Festival press screenings so far. Andrew Haigh’s ALL OF US STRANGERS is an excellent fantasy. (I thought it seemed very similar to Nobuhiko Obayashi’s THE DISCARNATES, with a story about a man who gets to interact with the ghosts of his late parents, and I learned afterwards that both are adaptations of the same novel.) It’s a very moving coming out film. I also liked queer theorist Paul B. Preciado’s ORLANDO, MY POLITICAL BIOGRAPHY.

Congrats on finishing a version of the film you can send to festivals! Are you able to relax now that it’s out of the way, even if work still remains? Any plans for the weekend?

I have never found any worthwhile haunted house documentaries either. It’s strange that the subject hasn’t inspired better filmmaking, but they all seem to be very superficial, if not basically promotional content.

Dennis, I like chandeliers. And I see what you did there. You’re a funny guy. 😀

Yeah, I guess fire affinity is best seen on an individual basis. My group of friends, though, it’s always the guys lighting the bonfires and marveling at them and trying to grow the fuck out of them while the gals stand back and are like, eek! don’t burn yourself.

I hope your weekend is stellar. It’s supposed to rain all weekend here and be windy, so I’ll just stay in and do…something. 😉

  9. Cody Goodnight

    Hi Dennis.
How are you? I’m ok. That’s great about the film! I hope it goes well! Superbeast rules. I used to Marilyn Manson, but I grew out of him. The second OG Apes was super dark and pulpy and I loved it. I need to see the newer ones. Plague Mass is genuinely terrifying, as is The Litanies of Satan and The Divine Punishment. I actually rewatched Dr. Strangelove and loved it. Peter Sellers is hilarious. I also listened to Catastrophe Ballet by Christian Death and loved it. Prefer the Rozz Williams era. Going to rewatch James Whale’s Frankenstein tonight. Hope you have a good one!
