Our next film: Well, the goal is to make a film that’s notably less expensive and difficult to make because neither of us has any appetite to go through the years of struggle it took to make/finish ‘RT’. If we make it in France, which seems kind of likely at the moment, there are strict labor laws here which dictate that, if you make a feature, you have to have a lot of funding to pay cast/crew to work at length. At least a million euros. And our films are too odd to probably acquire that much funding through grants, which is how films are made here. So, the other option — and this is what we did with ‘Permanent Green Light’ — is to say you’re making a short film, in which case you don’t need as much funding. The catch is that you only end up being able to afford to shoot for a short time, 12 days in the case of ‘PGL’. Once you’ve shot the film, you can make it whatever length you want as long as the cast/crew privately know that you’re actually shooting a feature film. So, we’re trying to write a simpler film, something we can shoot relatively quickly, and maybe it’ll be a long short film, but more likely it’ll be a feature film, just maybe a slightly short feature film.
