p.s. Hey. ** David Ehrenstein, Thank you. Agreed! And you know ‘Providence’ is in the very upper echelon of my favourite films too. ** Tosh Berman, Wow, I’ll see if I can track down traces of that Dirk Bogarde album. Thanks a lot, Tosh! ** Steve Erickson, Look forward to your new review as always. Wait, you used the pseudonym Zak Cheney-Rice and disguised your review as an article, or is the link amiss? Everyone, This link may lead you to Steve’s review of review of JUST DON’T THINK I’LL SCREAM, but it also may lead you to an article called ‘Why ‘Civility’ Protects Dan Crenshaw But Not Ilhan Omar’. Either way, you’re probably all right over there. Your new film idea sounds super promising. And basing the monologue in your autobiography is exciting. ** _Black_Acrylic, Hi, Ben. Glad you liked it. Wonderful news about the excellent driving lesson and your increasing physical ease! Ha, that video is cool. Everyone, _Black_Acrylic offers you the opportunity to witness a charming performance of the Hatari Eurovision song by some wee school kids. Feel it. The rebel kid in blue (green?) is a mini-god. ** Derek McCormack, Derek! Hey, great pal ‘o’ mine and genius guy! Thank you so much for liking the .Bogarde stuff, and, of course, ‘The Guitarists’, blush, whoo hoo! A huge bunch of love to you! ** Corey Heiferman, Hi. Juicy, .. cool, I’ll take that. Or I mean on its behalf. The thing’s. 25 years old! Huh. His look holds up, who’d have thought. I would love that post that your comment expanded into, needless to say. All the encouragement you wish for. Oops, well, … no big oops, it sounds like re: the test. Still, I hope your scores are stellar. ** All right then. I hope today’s post gives your tongues a huge boner. See you tomorrow.

    Yummy stuff today!

I just found out that a very dear friend of mine died two months ago. Back in the 60’s James Stoller created a marvelous magazine called “Moviegoer” In its very first issue Susan Sontag wrote one of her most important pices — a defense and celebration of Godard’s “Vivre sa vie” whch had opened in New York to hostile reviews and closed quickly. Jimmy wrote a few pieces in other places: “Film Quarterly” and a pice on Warren Sonbert for the Dutton anthology “The New American Cinema” which also includes a piece by me. Jimmy worked primarily as c opy editor for numerous publicatons, most famously “The Village Voice” When the “Voice” finally shuttered I tried to contact him with no luck. Finally I called our mutual friend Lorenzo Mans (a screenwriter who also plays a pivotal role in Jim McBride’s “David Holzman’s Diary”) and he told me the whole sad story. Jimmy as it turns out had never been to a dentist or a doctor in his life. He was dying of cancer. Loreno with the help of our friend Vivian Kurtz (so memorably filmed by Bruce Conner in his short “Vivian”) got him to the hospital, but it was too late.Jimmynever had a long-term relationship with anyone. He lived in complete desolate solitude. He once told me that he’d tricked with Gregg Toland’s son but that’s all he ever offered. He was quite handsome and affable so he presumably would have no trouble n starting up relationships, but he did. Words cannot express how much this saddens me. None of us should EVER be alone. if you are, find someone and hold onto them for dear life. Because it IS dear life.

I’m going to visit Japan this coming May, and this blog makes me excited for the trip. I do have a weakness for Japanese street food as well as food-to-go from their 7-11 shops.

The Dirk Bogarde album is called “Lyrics for Lovers,” and it came out in 1960. There was a CD reissue, as well as on vinyl. I imagine it’s out-of-print, but on YouTube: https://youtu.be/AsJqxLZdAuM

This Japanese food porn is a pleasure, yum! Japan must be the leading exponent of non-CGI animations and the food porn here is a particularly fine example of the art.

The watching of real life actual porn here in the UK is under major threat just now, as from July 15 our government will introduce mandatory age verification for any users of “adult content”. It’s supposedly to stop children accessing this stuff but will mean everyone’s details end up on a big government database to be kept and used for whatever nefarious purpose the spooks see fit. As ever, this country leads the world in covert surveillance and stamping out civil liberties and it’s surely only a matter of time before things start to go wrong.

    Dennis,

I saw a video on YouTube where a professional chef made dishes from anime that reactors had to try not to eat. They did mot hold out long. I’m a big fan of unagi myself. Do you have a favorite Japanese food?

    Best,

I got an assignment to review WHITE, and a copy of the book, today. I plan to do something fairly meta. Especially if my opinion of the book fails in line with everyone else’s, I don’t think it’s very interesting to offer a similar condemnation of its politics. I googled the book’s reviews earlier in the week and I couldn’t find a single positive review, even from newspapers that lean to the right. When I mentioned that to a friend last night, he said AMERICAN PSYCHO got the exact same reception in the media but the film led people (including himself) to re-think their dismissal. I’d like to write something about WHITE as part of Bret’s body of work, which I do admire (especially AMERICAN PSYCHO & GLAMORAMA), and how attitudes towards that have evolved over time.

Have you come across any literal Japanese food porn?

The new British porn law is fucked-up and seems like an invitation to all sorts of abuse, with its stated goal just concern trolling. And the Guardian (if I recall correctly) recently ran an article about how easy it is to sign up and register with a fake credit card number anyway.

Dennis, Ah, I see what you did there. Yes, there. Up above. I’m a bit hungry now, thanks. Actually just ate a bit ago and still feel full.

I’ve done an unfollow or two in my day. Really, just one or two, hahaha. I’ve got a quick scroll finger that works wonders. To this day, I still haven’t unfriended one person. Fuck if I haven’t had about a hundred or so unfriend me. But that’s okay. I don’t post much anyway.

Though I’ve had this happen a couple times. I’ll be out with somebody or run into somebody, and the name of someone who I know has unfriended me comes up. I’ll be like, “Yeah, so and so unfriended me after friending me. That was strange.” And then I get, “Oh, well, he/she is really religious…” Hahaha. I’m like, really? Fuck ’em. But obviously, it’s most likely the gay thing and nothing else because like I said, I don’t post much at all. Kind of funny.

I’m like, hmm, though you all knew. Guess not. 😛

Oh, I know there’s a snowball’s chance of that happening re: Mark writing a love story…which is exactly why I’d love to see it. Just to see what he’d do with something like that. It wouldn’t be run of the mill, I’m sure.

Have a good weekend. Mine, I’m a just relax and shiznit.

  8. Bill

I just had lunch, but may have to run out for a snack, soon. Hmm.

Loved the Bogarde revival yesterday, of course. I don’t understand why he was “never easy to like”. After I first saw The Night Porter, he was one of my favorite actors.

Have a good weekend, Dennis. I’m changing locations quite a bit in the next 48 hours, may not drop in till Monday or Tuesday.
