The performance worked very well, apparently this is a long-term project. I really like how people here commit to unusual, specific sound-generation approaches and develop interesting practices and projects.

The John Le Carré books I have read so far are a total surprise to me. I’m not sure if you will like his books. The reason I like his writing is that he’s more literary than a “spy thriller,” and it’s not the narration I find attractive, but his descriptive skills. I compared him to Proust (which is a dangerous thing to do) in that he makes you, the reader, feel the room, the weather, etc. I can never remember the plots in his novels! What I do recall is the dread, the alienation of his characters. And Le Carré comes from an interesting background regarding his father, who was the ultimate con-artist. Le Carré was raised in the world of lies, and therefore, he is a perfect spy of sorts. And going back to Proust, it is not the bigness of his novel that I find interesting but more of the fact that Proust can focus on such great detail on his subject matter. I think of him as more of a modernist than a writer from the 19th century or early 20th century. He’s experimental! Reading Le Carré and Proust is more of a psychedelic experience than anything else.

About the “Ugly Man” story being published, I think it was the Uruguayan author Ramiro Sanchiz who spoke with you since he’s in charge of the anthology. It’s surreal to see you in this language after so long and in an anthology that deals with this genre known as “weird.” And speaking of translations, I just took a closer look, and rather than a new translation, it’s a new edition from a different publisher (your Spanish publisher, the one we got to know you through here, was Anagrama, and now this new edition is from one called STIRNER)—but with the same translation! F*ck! That’s a shame, considering what you said (I noticed it when I started reading you officially in English with “Closer” and “Try”, which have the same translator. “Frisk” was the only fine, I think. The Dream Police too), so I definitely won’t be buying it!!

I had lunch today with my friend who’s moving to Ireland. We had a great time, but I felt rather melancholy afterwards. He’s leaving New York at the end of August, so I know how few chances remain to see him in person.
I didn’t get out much over the weekend, but I saw my friend perform on Saturday. He sang very well, but unfortunately, he played in a bar that’s not suited to live music – 90% of the crowd was there to watch and cheer on the Knicks – and the laptop with his backing tracks kept crashing, so it was a very frustrating experience for everyone.

I’m experimenting with small chunks of text. I think I realized a lot of people are more susceptible to strangeness when it’s broken up like that. Long paragraphs without line breaks, such as the ones I use a lot, seem to annoy a lot of people. Breaking it up like this is an interesting way of being extravagant. Whole paragraphs can just be a list of details or something, but then you can just go directly to the next paragraph without needing to explain what happens in between, so I’m interested in that.

thank you! i don’t really have anyone in my life who reads the same things that i do so i don’t often get a chance to talk about books. most of them read, like, romance and fantasy and that sort of book club fiction. this weekend i started last words from montmartre by qiu miaojin and am quite liking it so far- it reminds me a lot of journey to the edge of life by the criminally underrated tezer ozlu and probably my favorite book of last year. it’s kind of intimidating that the author of montmartre was the same age as me. it’s sometimes hard for me to believe that 26 is still young when it feels like the world is obsessed with like 21 year old wunderkinds.
this weekend was uneventful except for the usual brain bullshit! i read a lot and cast on a new knitting project which i haven’t done in a bit. hope yours was equally as uneventful unless you wanted it to be eventful. idk. knicks won, so that was something! also our mini heatwave broke, so that was even better.
