p.s. Hey. ** Misanthrope, Hey, temp. Londoner. Happy you made it in three full pieces. Yeah, so sad about Nicholas. He was a fireball. Ah, you’re seeing ‘Crowd’, cool. It changes pretty much every night in subtle ways, but it was in great shape when it played here last week. Hope you dig it. How are your adventures going? ** David Ehrenstein, Hi. I just don’t express my opinion on social media. For me it seems pointless, and I don’t have any urge to publicise my opinions. I save my opinions for IRL, friends and people I can look at and interact with and actually talk thoughtfully with, and here on the blog to some degree since, very miraculously considering its online locale, this remains a place where people treat each other with respect and curiosity and thoughtfulness. ** Dominick, Hi! I get to see you again so soon, very cool! I’m good. My week? Uh, finally finish the French film script today and send it to our producer. There’s a big event/screening of the latest Godard film in a festival here, so that. Work on my new gif novel. The TV series script is submitted to ARTE now. If they want changes, which hopefully they won’t, we’ll do them. Otherwise we’re in the clear until the episodes are translated into French, and then we’ll have to carefully go over them to get the French perfect. So I’m free of that fucking burden for the moment. Oh, sure, I also definitely have read novels and though, wow, I wish I’d gotten there first, or I wish I had the talent, etc. to write something like that. It’s a rare and great feeling for sure. I guess that feeling can make writers feel inadequate, but I think it’s just inspiring, i.e. (to myself) ‘I can be better than I am, work harder.’ Yes, the connection with you and Poppy is pretty interesting, right? I’m so happy you’ve made that deep connection. You probably know that Daniel Johns (and Silverchair) are shiny disguised characters in one of my novels, ‘Guide’. As is Blur, especially bassist Alex James. But, in AJ’s case, he had a meltdown about my use of him in the book whereas Daniel Johns loved it and thought it was hilarious. Cool seeming guy. I hope you have the best week too! Love, me. ** Sypha, Hi, James. Obviously, I’ll wait until I’ve seen ‘It 1’ before I see ‘It 2’, if I do. Ah, so you did decide to do a Sypha Nadon LP as the 50th. Perfect choice, I’m sure. Ha, your life is about as edgy as mine if not more so, pal. ** Brendan, Hey, big B! Yeah, the work looks fucking great. And the photos too, yes, for sure, if I didn’t say so already. Feel rightfully high, man. ** _Black_Acrylic, Very happy you liked the films ands that they proved to be associative. Excellence all around about The Call 3! ** Steve Erickson, Hi. Oh, right. Hm. Maybe I got confused and it’s a series they were recommending. I’ll figure it out. Yep, that ‘Slave Play’ noise is part and parcel. I remember reading about that controversy. Jesus. The world. ** Bill, I think ‘MS’ played at SF Cinematheque recently if I’m not mistaken. That Art Ensemble of Chicago recreation sounds lovely, actually. Bon day! ** Grant Maierhofer, Hi, Grant! Cool, it’s up! Everyone, The awesomest writer Grant Maierhofer’s new novel ‘Drain Songs’, which I hugely recommend, is imminent, like ultra-imminent. And I think you can check its details out and order it if you go here. Take it easy and excitably, man. ** Okay. Today the blog attempts to get you in the Halloween mood via a combination of your eyesight and taste buds. Have a favorite horror cake? See you tomorrow.
The pageant strikes me “Jenny Savillian” for some reason. 19. is my winner. I love cake. I’m going to make one for Halloween. Just need to decide the flavors. The blog’s looking perfectly festive. Just watching horror movies and reading ghost stories here. Guy De Maupassant is still the captain so far. Although I’m finding some good ones. 3 From Hell was fun as fuck. Midsommer a picnic. Joker just blase. In The Tall Grass was pretty cool. Loved the newest Rammstein.
Went to a graveyard I’d never been to. White people graves, not Spanish as I expected dumbly. All Spanish graves across the bay. Stopped by the commercial Halloween store. Some sour memory associated with when those stores started. Like I found a butcher knife on the floor of the store. The benzos have got creepy. Can’t tell when I’m awake or not/blacking out. Seeing some creeper stuff here and there. I’m off most of the month. Happy travels, and happy October!
Dennis. Just looked at the cakes with Mieze, Rigby, and Kayla. We love them.
So far, so good. We’ve had some fun. LPS and Kayla have met some people to hang out with, though they’re with is most of the time. As expected, LPS is in his element. Already knows all the surrounding streets and shit, goes out on his own a bit here and there. I think he wants to move here, hahaha.
Sailor Stephens will be joining us for CROWD. It’ll be great to finally meet in person.
Some of these looks quite nice, I especially like the snake one (#15), the cockroach(?) one (#16), the ANTICHRIST/”Chaos Reigns” one… oh, and #67, the shark, that’s a cake I would have loved to have gotten as a child, when I was obsessed with sharks. I think the best cake I ever got was this one I had in 1987 (for my 7th birthday) that was designed by my grandmother (who was a cake decorator) that was made to look like the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man from the first GHOSTBUSTERS film.
Unfortunately, the only reason I’ve been working on music so much recently is that I have nothing to write (which is usually the case). But I’ve begun shopping around my 3rd collection, and hopefully once that finds a home it’ll free me up mentally to start something new.
Cause We’ve Got Cake!
Yum. That snake is super cute. And of course I approve of the reference to medical wax models. I hope all those maggots are like marzipan, right?
Bill
Each of these look tasty and gross in their individual way, but I do like that dismembered goose head at 51 for having its own unique weirdness.
The big news is that I finally finished that funding app about 10 minutes ago. I was successful last time out which may count against me, but hey I may as well give it another shot. I changed the prospective launch venue from Glasgow’s Old Hairdresser’s to the DCA Centre Space because I think that will improve my chances, keeping it local. Jim’s cool with it and I’m gonna ask my friends the former Dundee crew Fallopé and The Tubes to play a DJ set. It’s a crazy idea but it just might work.
