Waking up at 5am I’ve been listening to a bunch of Techno mixes from SoundCloud at a low volume. Hard-as-nails 90s stuff from the Orbit in Leeds or newer sets from Berghain have soundtracked my mornings of late. Speaking of Techno, the new LP from Surgeon – Crash Recoil may well be my latest vinyl purchase.
Earlier today Big Sam was announced as the new Leeds United manager. The “puke football” that he is said to be a specialist in, it just means that his teams will usually punt the ball upfield to the big man. I’d like to think most Leeds fans have more sophisticated tastes but hey, needs must I guess?

Recently I relistened to all the Skinny Puppy albums I owned, in chronological order. Although the last album I listened to most recently was the 2 CD PURE MCCARTNEY album by Paul McCartney.
I have tried to get a few new CDs this year, including the new Depeche Mode (which I found a bit turgid), the new Ladytron (okay but not as good as the last one) and the new Miley Cyrus (very enjoyable), among others. I tried out that Boygenius group as well but wasn’t super-impressed.
Intriguing gig items today, Dennis. Wow, the Melvins are still doing their thing.

Glad to see Xylouris White is in your rotation. I saw them open for Godspeed You! Black Emperor a few years back–fantastic set. I think they had a third person on cello(?) too. Had a very energetic, almost violent sound going–played at dusk which lead in nice to GY!BE’s night time projector heavy show.
It’s been years since I thought about Tricky, at least in relation to his new music. Those Island albums had a magic he’s never been able to recapture. The Marta song made me think of Tirzah’s stripped-down pop/R&B with Mica Levi.
The Nondi_ song is excellent. I’ll check out her album. RP Boo’s upcoming LEGACY, VOL. 2, which compiles unreleased music from 2002-7, is a really strong look at the start of footwork. Some of it is almost as chaotic as POE’S LAW.

For some reason, I have a massive block when it comes to actually sitting down and writing that script. I think a big part of it is that my laptop contains a near-infinite number of distractions. I’d like to go to a cafe with a notebook and start writing by hand to get around that, but I find my own handwriting almost impossible to read.

Ah, I was listening to the Nondi_ record this very morning! I listened to something else you might like the other day, ‘One Butoh’ by Fuji-Yuki. It’s a set of butoh-inspired vocal pieces that I really enjoyed, super spookuy and atmospheric. And oh yeah, I forget you missed the wild period of strikes and riots! I have several stories, but there was one particular day in March, near where you live and I work, and basically come evening people lit massive trash fires all down the road from Madeleine to Opéra, there were squadrons of riot cops charging, and in the midst of all this some groups of very sweet, confused tourists taking pictures of it all. Although the latter disappeared somewhat when the cops started on the tear gas and grenades. My office was closed early but I stayed out til midnight or so to see what went on. Never seen Paris so beautiful! I have more stories but I should probably save them until I see you. So, I have resigned from both my jobs and consequently I am very free at the moment! That said, the one at Madeleine insisted I give them 2 months’ notice so I’m not completely free until late June. If you want to do something on a Saturday afternoon like the last time, I finish work at 3 so that could work? Otherwise, if you give me a little notice I can make time on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Sundays and any of the Mondays that are public holidays – so yeah, a lot of choice! How’s everything going? All recovered from the filming, jet lag and what-not now? Did everything go according to how you hoped?
I’ve been good. Escaped London for two weeks. I finished my PTSD therapy at the end of March, like right on the 31st. So I was like I need to take a break from here. I feel like the therapy has done what it set out to do, we ended where we had hoped to, and there was movement in the processing of the memory, and I feel in a better place in regards to Tree’s death. I’m still getting my head around the whole impact of what happened in my childhood and the abuse there and how that was all catalysed in that friendship and final trauma, but that is still an on going journey I guess.
My escape was actually to visit my mum’s place, and part of my intention was like to “talk it out” with her, but when I got there, the way things were bypassed, or how she still rushed to defend my brother other stupid things like him ‘not’ stealing the pack of cigarettes I had left when I last stayed there during his “controversial stay”, I was like “whatever, I don’t need to resolve this.” Some things just won’t ever change, and you know, I can sit with that.
But now I’m back in London, back focused on moving forward. Revitalised. All files in order. It will be the tenth anniversary of her death on Saturday, and I’m gonna take that as an ending point. I went to her grave today, and for the first time I saw it as just that, a grave. I’m sure she would be proud of what I’ve achieved.

I had a cat named Darby who fell from the balcony and lived but walked with a limp. Thats where I got the name from, but I think I named him after Darby Crash, because I was OBSESSED with him and still have his records like from their first performance and yuh. My friends call me Darbs, my best friend calls me darblzes and darbington.
OH so I realized that I don’t have as much friends as I thought I did but it’s cool because ive become so close to my best friend. I called them every day at the hospital, and we had some really good conversations during that time. Gonna throw an inside joke here just to confuse you.

ok so I moved to like this program thing and there’s like curfews and they wont let you do drugs, and I can barely even see my fiends without some weird restrictions so its weirdly lonely even though I have roommates and other people. I was planning to like to run away but GET THIS ok ok so my mom has this conservatorship on me blah blah probably won’t let me have surgery and blah blah BUT the people here say they might be able to grant me some independence in regard to the whole transgender stuff and that’s the only reason why I’m staying.
I really, really hope that works out. Once I get that I think I might run away I feel so closed here. I want to be an artist. I know what i’ll do and how. But when you say that its like ur “crazy and delusional” to them

I’ll see if I can do anything this end re: free/cheap copies. from what i can tell from other siblings my sister and I are very close, which means that either we get along like a house on fire or we are in an apocalyptic argument. we have a lot of shared interests & culture stuff as well, tho she is much more trad. Dickens and Wodehouse and MR James kinda vibe. I’m not going to persuade her to pick up Bataille or Acker or whoever anytime soon. I’m fairly lucky family-wise I think, well now my dad isn’t in the picture anyway. are you close with anyone in your family? it does seem, from what I’ve picked up, probably not…

I’m not really a picnic person, but they even made me crave a nice, little picnic. I have difficulty imagining you as a picnic person either?
In your previous response to me, you said something really interesting that I’ve been thinking about, but it has left me with a burning question: How does anarchism intensify/ cause optimism? For me, it’s the opposite; I feel particularly pessimistic at my most anarchist.
