p.s. Hey. I’m at Parc Asterix today. To keep you entertained until I see you again tomorrow, I thought I would restore this wacky post from long ago masterminded by d.l.s Misanthrope and Flit. Some of the original post had died over the years, so it has been trimmed of its corpsey parts. Enjoy! See you tomorrow.
Hey, Dennis! Sorry for becoming non-existent in cyberspace time and again, I hope you know, of course, that it’s nothing personal. I’ve been pretty depressed lately and I find it hard to keep in touch even with those I consider truly important, you included.
That said, I’m really not here to complain now, instead, I’m gonna share what’s been giving me life these past couple of weeks.
First and foremost, I impulsively bought a train ticket to Vienna the week before the last to see a huge drag show. I’m so fed up with the drag scene here (which barely exists at all) and this performance was part of a Drag Race tour (Werq the World) and I thought what the hell, it’s a 2,5-hour train ride and I desperately need something inspiring and different. And it was so spectacular. I literally caught myself sitting there with my mouth hanging open in wonder and awe, haha. And the audience, fuck, I mean there I wasn’t a complete alien! Everyone was so beautiful.
After some complications, I finally got my copy of Blake Butler’s 300.000.000 too (I ordered it right after reading your post…) and though I’m still reading Part 1, I think I can already safely say that it’s one of the best books I have ever read in my life. I enjoy it so thoroughly, like really, there’s that reading experience where every single sentence gives you the feeling of “fuck, this is brilliant, I’m so glad somebody was capable of writing exactly this AND fuck, I wish I would’ve written this” and it’s like this for me. So thank you, once again, for the recommendation!
Also, my brother’s home and it’s really nice because he usually only gets to come home in the summer and around Christmas so this is like a bonus visit now.
How are you? Are you still working on the TV series? And how was Parc Asterix?
Oh and congratulations on your new GIF work!!
Lots & lots of love!!
(And what a lovely post today. Great to know it’s now un-dead.)
A great simulation of the Tumblr feed of a member of /r/popheads! I thought the “butterdance” would be a complete joke, but that was actually pretty disturbing to watch. “Smoke, Drink, Break Up” is pretty awesome, especially the chipmunk chorus.
JT LEROY, the first narrative film milking that story, opens in New York on Friday. The 15 minutes of “JT”‘s fame have lasted far longer than I ever expected.
I turned in my WHITE review today. The short version: frustratingly, some of the essays are insightful enough when they stick to cultural criticism to make one regret that the fact that the book needed an editor and, more importantly, its hypocrisy about “Generation Wuss” from someone who is still bitter about the response to tweets he made 6-7 years ago.
First, James Nulick, if you see this, Congrats, my man. I look forward to reading your new book.
Dennis, Hope your day goes/went swimmingly well.
Me, I pulled my back/got a terrible back spasm this weekend while working out (and I don’t even lift heavy at all anymore), and then I destroyed my phone when I stepped on it by accident. It was on my bed and I was putting up some blinds (never had ’em before) and a new curtain rods and curtains.
IOW, I’ve been out of commission for a bit!
Ha! And yes, I totally remember this. And as I said then, Flit was responsible for all the cool stuff. 😀
Oh, and I love getting “People You May Know” shit about people who’ve axed me on FB. Kind of funny.
Holy shit! One of the very first movies I ever made is randomly included in this post. It’s not actually linked to any of my accounts, though, so I guess someone pirated it. It’s the one about “Shannon Gaga,” a broke, overweight college student in San Marcos, Texas who’s also a Lady Gaga impersonator. This “unofficial” version has more than twice as many views as the one on my Vimeo page, LOL.
Do you have any idea when this post was originally made? I think I made that movie in 2010 or 2011…
@ Misanthrope and Flit, when a man is tired of Pop he is tired of life. Ponponpon has never left my head in all the years since your post first appeared, and I doubt it ever will.

Dennis, Ha! I had a feeling…
And comments remain. Interesting.
