p.s. Hey. I’m away from Paris and the blog today doing some early work on Zac Farley’s and my new film. I decided to give you this long dead Xmas post to get you through. Why, I don’t know. See you tomorrow.
Lovely post, it almost makes me look forward to Xmas. Btw, I forgot to mention that my school has two vacant professorships atm, and it’d be great with some exciting new energy. So if you know of someone looking for this type of work, please let them know. They don’t have to live in Copenhagen btw, somewhere in Europe is fine.
So much good christmas cheer on the DC blog for us this month!
I agree that the Agnes Martin show was sublime, and really well suited to the guggenheim. That space is so insanely designed. And I’m glad you liked the KJM show as well! I read a profile of him in the new yorker which is what got me interested. I cracked into the first few pages of the Meredith Alling book– wow! I’m trying to take it slow, a few stories each day, because I think if I read through it too fast I wouldn’t appreciate it nearly as much.
The show out in astoria is sort of a salon, a building on of a reading series I’ve run out here for the last two years. We’re going to do three winter evenings spaced out in Dec, Jan, and Feb and this first one features a sound artist named Roarke Menzies, who I’m a huge fan of. We are pairing his music with a film shot by Carol Hu, another dear friend, in south east asia last year. She actually joined me for the LCTG screening. I know you’re far away, but when we have to poster made I’ll send it your way for fun!
I’m glad you’re busy and doubly glad that it is with things that are welcome! Hope the film is going swimmingly, talk to you soon!
How did you find the Nazi-oriented items? Googling “Santa +Nazi”?
I hope your day was productive and you can work better with this producer.
Here’s my 2016 film top 10 list:
1. TONI ERDMANN
2. MOONLIGHT
3. NO HOME MOVIE
4. ‘TIL MADNESS DO US PART
5. RIGHT NOW, WRONG THEN
6. CERTAIN WOMEN
7. ELLE
8. THINGS TO COME
9. I AM NOT YOUR NEGRO
10. THE MERMAID
Sad to say, THE MERMAID, which was made in China by Stephen Chow, is a much better example of Hollywood-style entertainment than any of the actual Hollywood films I saw this year. It grossed $200,000,000 worldwide, only $2,000,000 of that coming from its paltry American release.
Yohoho, Gunga Den! Merry Christmas! Hope you had a good scouting trip. How was it? Did it inspire?
This Xmas collection is great. I’ve been enjoying lots of kind of bleak Christmas scenarios this year-rundown cafes & shopping centres, all done up with decorations & giving me an oddly down-at-heel yet cheering vibe. It’s nice and makes me think of Fassbinder films, in some way.
Our meeting with the illustrator went very well, thanks for asking. I showed her some references I find inspiring & she seemed really excited by what we’re going for and to really get it too. It’s good.
I’m glad Chocolate Happyland piqued your curiosity! I spent a fair bit of time reading folks Tripadvisor reviews of the place, some of which were pretty funny.
Hope all’s very well with you & the weather is coming round to the way you desire it. It’s still oddly warm here in Glasgow.
Wishing you a Thursday full of positive intrigue.
Lots of love to you,
Jamie

Just posted a photo with a kind of “deathly xmass” feeling, thought I’d share it here. Kind of beats the usual instagram feed..
