p.s. Hey. I’m back, and it’s mid-ish September, which means that the blog’s gradual post-shaped countdown to Halloween commences. ** Monday ** David Ehrenstein, Hi, D. I can’t see Loserboy’s tat to save my life, but I’m still one cup of coffee away from being fully me. ** Bill, Oh? Pray tell. Oh, you mean the Berlin post escorts. That’s weird, interesting, and rings a bell. Nice about you doing visuals for EKG. I know their stuff a little and like it a bunch. And Thomas Koner: I haven’t thought about him in ages. Anyway, it sounds to have been ace, and any chance to get a look at the evidence of your EKG visuals? Great news about the tour. Where are you gigging? ** Thomas Moronic, Hi, T! Sorry I haven’t written to you yet. I was off in the busy headspace of working. Soon. Your novel is out, real, a grab! Congrats, man, and I’m excited to mark the occasion with said post. Whenever is good for you. Love, me. ** Steevee, Yeah, that’s why I liked him. Well, that and the Cradle of Filth t-shirt. Unbelievable that Greyson/Loubani have still not been released. What in the world is going on? Scary madness. ** Misanthrope, Nice to get a gauge of your hardcoreness if you’re telling the truth, ha ha. No, truth is your middle name, so, yeah, you are a man of admirable integrity and self-control. ** Grant maierhofer, Hi, Grant. Things are going really good, man. The projects that occasioned the Loire trip all advanced in exciting ways. Well, I hope somebody films it too. Surely, you can ask someone to, at the very least, vacate their cellphone’s memory and hold it up/point. Sweet that you’re doing a BSC post. Such a terrific site, and I love this series that C. Higgs is putting it through. Exley and ‘TMS’, curious. I’ll think about that. Aw, thanks for the very kind words. Mm, between the ‘TMS’ ARC and the book itself I did just a little refining that would probably be invisible to anyone but me, and there were some layout mistakes that got corrected, but the differences are reasonably slight, I think. Yeah, I too am really, really excited to see/read ‘300,000,000.’ Best Wednesday ever to you. ** Sypha, Hi, James. I guessed right about Tom Daley, cool. What are your and Misa’s theories, eh? ** Rewritedept, If I know you, which, admittedly, I do and don’t simultaneously, ‘desperate and ugly’ will be less so or not any day now, if not already. Oh, money, ugh. I’m hopeless with it. Got home safe, or all evidence points to that conclusion. ** Tuesday ** David Ehrenstein, Brautigan was such a cultural superstar and ubiquitous dude/name back in the day, in a way you don’t get anymore now that fiction is more sidelined. I guess Tao Lin would be the closest. ** Tosh Berman, I read and loved Brautigan when I was a teen, but I was kind of hippieish for a while, or my hair and clothes were. I haven’t reread him in ages, but maybe his combo of sweetness, too-clever-ness, and a bit of dark swirl inside is still pretty cool He seems to be being read again to a degree he wasn’t for decades, so … ** Rewritedept, Hi. See, today was ok/better, I knew it or ‘knew’ it. I’m home today, yep. Helium, wow, I should spin them again. Funny that I’m linked with Mazzy Star. What a curious combo. I was never into them. I mean, I had nothing at all against them, I just never got seduced into actually buying any of their stuff. Too soft for my mood at the time maybe. Talk soonish, yes. ** _Black_Acrylic, Hi, Ben. Never having done jury duty, I imagine it being better than job working, I guess because you could read books or play app games or something. ** Steevee, Hi. Hope your friend’s plan panned out or is panning out or something positive. ** Okay, we’re up to speed. Enjoy the dawning of the blog’s interference by Halloween. I’m off now to this big annual amusement park industry Expo with much adrenaline coursing through my amusement park-loving veins or whatever. See you tomorrow.
DC,
You're back. Where'd you go? Sorry, I'm confused. My sleep pattern is fuct. I like LOSERboy and ZeusAKAGod. Is it Halloween yet? Don't know what I'm doing this year, maybe a party or two, reading Oliver Onions? Going to the Halloween tents/stores this weekend, also, it's festival weekend, Mothman Festival. Found an old children's white-rabbit costume there a couple years ago. Going alone this year, it's gonna be a blast. I'll post some pics. I'll back to you, when I get a minute today. Hall-o-Ween? LOL Enjoy the park
Kiss Meets The Phantom Lolz
The hopping octopus reminds me of the non-hopping on in Ed Wood's Bride of the Monster
Things have gone from worse to even worse for John Greyson. A Frenchman picked up in another round-up and sent to that Cairo prison has been MURDERED by fellow prisoners.
The New York Times has finally notied John and Tarek. Amnesty International is involved along with Canada itself, but I am not at all encouraged. John and Tarek were put into jail without specified charge for 15 days, after which there was supposed to have been a hearing. The hearing didn't happen and they got another 15 days.
There is no light at the end of this tunnel.
Here's the NYT story
DC – Love the Brautigan rerun. Still trying to figure out what that guy means to lit history. Something curious and important, just can never quite put my finger on it. Wanted to check in with you on the blurbage for ROPE again. Gentle nudge, as always. We were thinking of maybe putting the thing out in late Oct. if you wanted to file that away date-wise. Up to 32 pages finally in the new work and loving it. Hope you are well,
MB
Another fun bunch today, Dennis. I was kind of expecting the zombie boy to look like Otto from the movie. Wouldn't they sell more sets?
The little tour was set up by Birgit Ulher. It's Philly, NY, Boston, then Sonic Circuits in DC, where we open for those Bay area old-timers the Molecules.
I do plan on making a short teaser video with some of the EKG material. Can't promise it will come together soon with all this travel madness… They did film everything at the festival, but as usual I'm not optimistic about how my stuff looks after camera capture. The dots are bigger this time, so that might help, haha.
Bill
I always read the blog but this is my favorite part! I am excited it is back.
I like the boiling man the most because of the format of the video.
@ DC, did you do the Euro Attractions shebang? Do tell.
d-
yay, halloween decorations! my favorite holiday, easily, although i do enjoy the 4th of july because it indulges my fondness for amateur pyrotechnics and other such explosive rigging and whatnot. i'm hoping we're moved into a new place by halloween, because i want so badly to do our driveway as a satanic altar. blood everywhere, a giant mendes goat pentagram, black candles and maybe some entrails splattered around.
yes, do give helium another spin. it took me several tries to get them, but once it hit it was immediate obsession. mazzy star are definitely mellow. they probably get more play when i'm sleeping or reading than anything else. usually need something a little more involving/high energy if i'm driving or on the bus or otherwise out doing something. been listening to 'odyssey and oracle' by the zombies a whole lot the last couple days. it works nicely for keeping me in a less than road-rage-filled mood when i'm driving all over town, which i've been doing a lot lately. that, and the first thermals record. i love the thermals. great way to make a crosstown drive shorter, at least in terms of perception.
i'm on 353 in 'infinite jest,' and i think i'm at a point past where i'd read it any other time, but i can't really tell because every few pages for the last hundred or so, right about the time i'd start thinking i was into a section i hadn't previously read, i'd find myself reading a section i was familiar with (in this case, the long section on eschaton that i'm still on the fence re: the necessity of w/r/t the narrative but am withholding all judgements until i reach the end). also, got myself a new abbreviation to fit into my correspondence, etc.
got my hi-bias cassettes, going to the studio again this weekend. i'm hoping we can steal a whole day to track, as i've usually got nothing else to do with my saturday afternoon, but do have a birthday party to attend that evening. enjoying yr short visit home? you're off again this weekend to parts (semi-)unknown, yeah? get any work done on the novel while you were gone, or was it all just collab stuff with zac on this trip?
i'm watching 'spaced' with my little sister, so i'm going to get back to that. talk soon.
-c.
Dennis, How are ya buddy? Just thought I'd pop in and say Hi.
About a week ago I quit my job, having saved up enough money to do nothing but work on my novel for about four to five months–by that time it should be finished and I should be sending out query letters to agents and publishers. Exciting no? The only thing getting in my way is this fucking insomnia which saps me of my energy and strength. Its tough because I've been taking a sleep aid for the past three years and feel like if I dont get away from it now I might take it till the day I die. Getting back to normal sleep has been very difficult.
All these kinetic hallowen props remind of a Skinny Pupy video from way back–its funny how Gore/SM was such a popular aesthetic in the 90's. As if the Hellraiser series had someone become the inspiration for a lifestyle.
Anyhoo, now that I have time maybe I'll be around here more often. Take Care bud.
My friend came down with food poisoning and bailed on meeting me today. I hope he recovers in time for his flight back to Poland tomorrow. I'm really sorry I couldn't see him before the trip, and I hope we're able to get together in November.
I know, I could use some hygiene, got a new piercing, have to get the other ball screwed back on it. Balls in my mouth, imagine that.
Keep your Robbe-(Grill)et real =)
(mouth-tooth)
Hey Dennis,
Nice to see the Halloween countdown starting. Coincides nicely with the onset of fall weather here. Hopping octopus and living mannequins seem like the must-haves of the bunch for me — though hard to turn down something called Moldy Mommy.
How did the work go on your projects with Zac? Have you had time to keep pushing the new novel forward?
Sending you an email shortly. Hope all's well
The octopus in Bride of the Monster.
hello dennis, i briefly returned with this overcaffeinated head & resulting inability of working at the moment. i just discovered this david foster walles books inside i think handwriting notes of the dead author is halloween-y? i will try to survive & return. glad you've got back, went to that expo & will leave soon again. "my" blanchot troubles me much less than before, but i don't know it's a good thing or not
Dennis, Misa and I were just kidding around about it: he said "He's so gay he can tell the flavor of a popsicle just by sitting on it." I said, "In any event, maybe when Daley says he's 'not gay,' maybe he just means that he's not lighthearted and carefree." To which Misa responded, "Or maybe his "I'm not gay" means "I'm not gay…I'm really fucking extra gay!"" And so on and so forth.
So, I got the new Thomas Pynchon novel yesterday. I'm already like 10% done it, though a bad allergy (or maybe it's a cold) is slowing down my progress. It's really good so far: I was almost laughing out loud at some parts when I started reading it last night. And I don't laugh often!
Oy! The Dodgers are giving me a rather predictable ulcer…and …oooo Halloween! Yikes! Love you Mr.C!!!
