Things have gone from worse to even worse for John Greyson. A Frenchman picked up in another round-up and sent to that Cairo prison has been MURDERED by fellow prisoners.
The New York Times has finally notied John and Tarek. Amnesty International is involved along with Canada itself, but I am not at all encouraged. John and Tarek were put into jail without specified charge for 15 days, after which there was supposed to have been a hearing. The hearing didn't happen and they got another 15 days.
There is no light at the end of this tunnel.

The little tour was set up by Birgit Ulher. It's Philly, NY, Boston, then Sonic Circuits in DC, where we open for those Bay area old-timers the Molecules.
I do plan on making a short teaser video with some of the EKG material. Can't promise it will come together soon with all this travel madness… They did film everything at the festival, but as usual I'm not optimistic about how my stuff looks after camera capture. The dots are bigger this time, so that might help, haha.

yay, halloween decorations! my favorite holiday, easily, although i do enjoy the 4th of july because it indulges my fondness for amateur pyrotechnics and other such explosive rigging and whatnot. i'm hoping we're moved into a new place by halloween, because i want so badly to do our driveway as a satanic altar. blood everywhere, a giant mendes goat pentagram, black candles and maybe some entrails splattered around.
yes, do give helium another spin. it took me several tries to get them, but once it hit it was immediate obsession. mazzy star are definitely mellow. they probably get more play when i'm sleeping or reading than anything else. usually need something a little more involving/high energy if i'm driving or on the bus or otherwise out doing something. been listening to 'odyssey and oracle' by the zombies a whole lot the last couple days. it works nicely for keeping me in a less than road-rage-filled mood when i'm driving all over town, which i've been doing a lot lately. that, and the first thermals record. i love the thermals. great way to make a crosstown drive shorter, at least in terms of perception.
i'm on 353 in 'infinite jest,' and i think i'm at a point past where i'd read it any other time, but i can't really tell because every few pages for the last hundred or so, right about the time i'd start thinking i was into a section i hadn't previously read, i'd find myself reading a section i was familiar with (in this case, the long section on eschaton that i'm still on the fence re: the necessity of w/r/t the narrative but am withholding all judgements until i reach the end). also, got myself a new abbreviation to fit into my correspondence, etc.
got my hi-bias cassettes, going to the studio again this weekend. i'm hoping we can steal a whole day to track, as i've usually got nothing else to do with my saturday afternoon, but do have a birthday party to attend that evening. enjoying yr short visit home? you're off again this weekend to parts (semi-)unknown, yeah? get any work done on the novel while you were gone, or was it all just collab stuff with zac on this trip?

About a week ago I quit my job, having saved up enough money to do nothing but work on my novel for about four to five months–by that time it should be finished and I should be sending out query letters to agents and publishers. Exciting no? The only thing getting in my way is this fucking insomnia which saps me of my energy and strength. Its tough because I've been taking a sleep aid for the past three years and feel like if I dont get away from it now I might take it till the day I die. Getting back to normal sleep has been very difficult.
All these kinetic hallowen props remind of a Skinny Pupy video from way back–its funny how Gore/SM was such a popular aesthetic in the 90's. As if the Hellraiser series had someone become the inspiration for a lifestyle.
Anyhoo, now that I have time maybe I'll be around here more often. Take Care bud.
My friend came down with food poisoning and bailed on meeting me today. I hope he recovers in time for his flight back to Poland tomorrow. I'm really sorry I couldn't see him before the trip, and I hope we're able to get together in November.

hello dennis, i briefly returned with this overcaffeinated head & resulting inability of working at the moment. i just discovered this david foster walles books inside i think handwriting notes of the dead author is halloween-y? i will try to survive & return. glad you've got back, went to that expo & will leave soon again. "my" blanchot troubles me much less than before, but i don't know it's a good thing or not
Dennis, Misa and I were just kidding around about it: he said "He's so gay he can tell the flavor of a popsicle just by sitting on it." I said, "In any event, maybe when Daley says he's 'not gay,' maybe he just means that he's not lighthearted and carefree." To which Misa responded, "Or maybe his "I'm not gay" means "I'm not gay…I'm really fucking extra gay!"" And so on and so forth.
So, I got the new Thomas Pynchon novel yesterday. I'm already like 10% done it, though a bad allergy (or maybe it's a cold) is slowing down my progress. It's really good so far: I was almost laughing out loud at some parts when I started reading it last night. And I don't laugh often!
Oy! The Dodgers are giving me a rather predictable ulcer…and …oooo Halloween! Yikes! Love you Mr.C!!!
