p.s. Hey. ** Kvaton, Hi. Thanks. We ended up having to delay the space museum and stuff because Zac came down with a cold. But this week. Maybe Wednesday. When my dad was young he founded a company that made rocket parts for NASA back when they used to farm out work to private companies. His factory was coolness to my budding eyes. Did see that about China and the moon’s other side. Maybe what they find there will finally make people realise that Pink Floyd album is the most overrated piece of shit in music history, (he said controversially). It should be the rage. ** David Ehrenstein, Hi. Ah, yes, indeed about that chapter in your book! Jacobs and Lewis is a very wacky combination to imagine. Wow. Weird ‘cos I just got in a mood and restored the blog’s Jerry Lewis Day, which seemed like a peculiar choice, but maybe not. I haven’t heard the name Debra Winger in such a long time. Thanks, D! ** Sypha, Good. We’re squared away. You still under the weather on this cheerful Monday morning? I hope not. ** Misanthrope, Well, one would be really asking for it with that title, which of course would be an interesting ask. I’m not sure if I can even count movie adaptations of really good novels that begin to rise to the occasion on one hand’s worth of fingers. Adapting shitty novels or good genre novels seems like a much better idea. We did purposefully make PGL a film that should be watched more than once to fully get. Not a very trendy thing to do. I hope your teams won their things. Me, I like that name. Include me among the thumbs uppers. ** Steve Erickson, The obvious problem with adapting ‘Dhalgren’ is that the money required to do its world justice would necessitate dumbing it way down. ‘Dune’ was more possible because it isn’t that smart for conceptually complicated to begin with. I like some of the films adapted from Dick novels, but the only that actually manages to translate Dick’s work in a diligent way for me is Linklater’s ‘A Scanner Darkly’. Great, and how strange, that ‘La Religiuese’ is getting a US re-release! ** JM, Hi. Ah, okay, I thought maybe you meant you were moving abroad, I don’t know why. A month, wow, that is quick. Remember about doing the ‘welcome to’ post if you still want to. Didn’t get to the museum, as I said up above, ‘cos Zac got sick, and I ended up just watching bits of movies on my laptop because … oh, because the theater where I wanted to see a film was in the middle of one of Saturday’s Yellow Vest riots. Big up on your day ahead. ** _Black_Acrylic, Hi. You can’t rent Jacobs on DVD? That’s sad. So nice to hear your excitement about the zine and know you’re using your brain’s gears to suss its beginnings. ** Kyler, Hi, man. Oh, sure, like I said, there was nada on my end. I didn’t know that Williams got paranoid, but it does not surprise me. If I even get a big whiff of pot off a nearby smoker, I get paranoid. I liked it okay as a teen, but then I had two gigantic LSD freak outs, and, after that, pot just restarted them. Mm, I don’t think I get paranoid, no. Do I? No, I honestly don’t think I ever do. I’m a worrier, but it’s not paranoia based, as far as I can tell. Of course I get insecure about what people think of me, not hugely often, but sure. That’s, like, ‘only human’, as they say, I think? ** Corey Heiferman, Hi, Corey. Congrats on your new TV. Glad you dug into Jacobs. I haven’t seen ‘Wrong Moves’. I did see ‘Pacific Heights’ but so long ago that I have no memory of it other than it being set in SF and kind of eerie. Cyprus, nice. Never been there myself. Sounds tasty. I still manage to pry through the wealth of people using Facebook as a place to promote their opinions on trending newsy hot spots and to foist their every emotional state on everyone and find valuable things and people and ideas, but it does require ever more steely nerves. Enjoy seeing your old pal. Like I said a couple of times up north, Zac got sick so the space museum trip was delayed, ideally only until this Wednesday if he’s up and about by then. Enjoy all 24 of your upcoming hours. ** Right. Today … is … oh, yes, microscopic things for your possible delectation. See you tomorrow.

    hi d.

im not too keen on miniatures so did a quick skim on todays post but i like the symbolic resonance they have and their ongoing presence on this blog. hey, yeah, i’m keen for a welcome-to, should i just email you a pdf doc of some sort with a compiled series of things or what? shame about zac getting sick, wishing him a betterness, see anything interesting on that laptop front? sorry for no capital letters lately i’ve been lazy – the week ahead involves the premiere of a new show and then a wedding to round it out. and hopefully my copy of small talk at the clinic arrives tomorrow.

hey. dang. sounded exiting. i guess i could make the trip to nasa its only a few hours north and on the other coast. theres a museum i want to go to even more just south, its part of the ringling guys stuff. i guess he created a big haunted mansion there and a turn-of-the-century escape for artists that became a school and this museum. not sure what the paintings are like. they look fairly standard, not sure. def need a museum day soon. i remember that about your dad, engineers are nuts. lol i was in this club in middle school rocketry. i just thought it was way too bro. so i ended up in the chess club, still love chess. haha the Pink Floyd… i bought the boxed-set, i bought animals, it was good for what it was good for. my guitarist friend, Jimmy Page obsessive extraordinaire, was secondarily obsessed with Gilmour. Darkside is fun, and grand, only too English it seems, a bit too much space and acid residue in there, as boring as beans and bangers in London. i do hear the laugh from pigs and the riff from dogs in my head almost daily. i do like his way around the strat. pretty sure my friend and i watched a ghost flip over some matches and we just continued talking. trying to get a line to take off for the novel. micro…it reminds me of those twinks that in one way or another look like theyre 9 years old. i do think about the nanobots a lot. heard chomsky say that the u.s. has the capability to win a nuclear war now. discussions of space and consciousness and technology get extremely complicated it seems, haha. just found out this hot boy i know is living up the coast. maybe a plane ticket and a stalking. hope Zac feels better. how retarded you guys have a movie playing in Paris, dumb as fuck, love it! 🙂

    Hi!

My Mom often uses these miniature figurines to advertise her ceramics. I adore the whole series – actually, I kind of adore everything too small.

Huge, huge congratulations on PGL’s French theater release!!

Have you read ‘M Train’ by Patti Smith? I got this gorgeous copy for Christmas and I feel like I don’t ever want to tear myself away from this sound blanket of inner calmness she seems to possess.

On Friday, I’m going to Prague to visit Anita so I’ll be back here with the highlights of my little journey on Monday. I hope you get to go to London and best of luck for the big PGL meeting! See you soon, Dennis!!

hi d! i’m doing a little drive-by, sorry for not delving into the main event up there, but i’m in self-imposed work-hours, so trying to avoid distraction. i’m writing my bachelor essay and trying to work on my master’s application. but hey:)))how are you? say get well soon to zac for me please, hope you get to see that heizer you lucky dogs. wish i was there. congrats on the french theatre release that’s great news, i’m glad it got sorted. i can’t remember when we spoke last but i got surged which is great, then i got a horrifying infection which was not great, but now i’m okay and friday next week i’m officially allowed to start trying to lift more than 2kg at a time! it’s been so boring you wouldn’t believe. also starting school again this week, haven’t actually been able to do much of what i need/want to do for the past 2 months so i’m raring to go really. i’m planning to do a/these large-ish installation/s for my graduating show and it’s gonna be so much work and i have a lot of catching up to do. is there any news/dates for black box? okay i’m gonna go back to work, sending you all my love hope you feel it xxx

LA RELIGIEUSE turned out to be the most crowded screening I’ve attended at Film Forum since they re-opened last fall with an additional screen after a period of renovations! They regularly revive French New Wave films, so I’m not surprised this did extremely well. Also, while it was released on VHS in the US, it never came out on Blu-Ray or DVD, and it’s been impossible to see theatrically outside the context of the occasional Rivette retrospective. A British Blu-Ray came out last year, and I’m sure an American one will follow this re-release.

The Church of Satan tweeted praise for your friend’s Golden Globe win because it demonstrated their values of individualism and freedom!

DARK SIDE OF THE MOON is #116 on iTunes’ current list of the top selling albums, 46 years after its release. I like it more than you do, but Pink Floyd made about 8 albums which are better (long after Syd Barrett left.) My theory is that after teenagers try weed and enjoy it, their next step is buying copies of DARK SIDE OF THE MOON & LEGEND (#34 on the iTunes chart) because they’re supposed to be the ultimate stoner albums (for reasons I don’t quite understand.)

I should probably point out that he came to the COS’ attention for thanking Satan for inspiring his portrayal of Cheney.

Some nice art today. I especially liked the Frederik De Wilde pieces.

Dennis, well, I’ve had this cold for over a week now. I’m still coughing a bit, though not as much, and my nose isn’t leaking as much either, though I’m still expelling greenish mucus from my nasal cavities every now and then. I guess this cold is one of those lingering ones (some of my brothers have had it for 2 weeks and they’re still coughing). But I don’t feel quite as run down as I did at the start of it.

I spent most of today contacting various horror magazines (Black Static, Rue Morgue, and others) asking if they’d like to receive review copies of HARLEM SMOKE. Most of them bit, though of course, that’s no guarantee of getting an actual review. I also asked S.T. Joshi (the world’s most eminent Lovecraft scholar) if he’d be interested in looking at it, and he agreed. Gulp! In any event I’m trying to be a bit more aggressive about marketing this book, whereas with my collections I was more passive. I should say that this doesn’t come naturally to me at all and I can’t say I like doing it, but I really don’t want this book to kind of disappear like my first one did.

Tom Friedman – Untitled (A self portrait carved from aspirin)

My dad was prescribed asprin after his Xmas day stroke because it thins the blood, and I’m happy to say that today he was discharged from hospital to continue his recovery at home. He’s still fairly weak and wheelchair-bound right now but is expected to make a full recovery over the coming weeks and months.

    Dennis,

it’s James! today is my 49th birthday.. miraculously, I woke up and I am still alive!

I just read that the PGL screening in SF has been changed to Feb 10 -11 …. this is such a major, major drag!!! I’ll be in SF from Feb 1 – 5 and was so looking forward to seeing you and to seeing PGL on the big screen on Feb 3rd… such a complete and total disappointment! Might as well tell me Santa doesn’t exist. How will you make it up to me? 😉

Anyhow, still sending love from cold dark dreary Seattle …………………. :'(

    Xoxo,
    James
